DROffline MkII – File Analyzer by MAAT

DROffline MkII is a professional batch measurement application designed as the offline companion to MAAT’s DRMeter MkII. It provides automated analysis of loudness, dynamic range, and a wide range of additional audio metrics that are often unavailable directly within a DAW. Running in the background, it allows engineers to analyze single files or entire directories without interrupting their workflow.
As the official implementation of DRi (integrated Dynamic Range) and fully compliant with R128 and A/85 standards, DROffline MkII delivers accurate, repeatable measurements for both music and broadcast applications. It generates detailed reports in plain text or tab-delimited formats, including optional metadata such as engineer and studio information, making it ideal for documentation, delivery, and archiving.
Beyond standard loudness metering, DROffline MkII expands analysis with modern metrics like PSR (Peak-to-Short-Term Loudness Ratio), offering deeper insight into perceived dynamics. Its integration with DRMeter MkII also enables seamless workflows, including drag & drop operation directly into DAW sessions for quick evaluation.

Core Functionality

  • Batch analysis of single files or entire directories
  • Background processing without interrupting DAW work
  • Automatic generation of official DRi values
  • Full compliance with R128 and A/85 standards
  • Exportable reports (plain text and tab-delimited)
  • Optional engineer and studio metadata

Loudness Measurements (R128 / A/85)

  • Integrated Loudness (ITU compliant)
  • Loudness Range (LRA)
  • Maximum True Peak
  • Maximum Momentary Loudness
  • Maximum Short-Term Loudness

Dynamic & Supplemental Metrics

  • DRi (integrated Dynamic Range)
  • DRi Left / Right channels
  • PSR (Peak-to-Short-Term Loudness Ratio)
  • RMS Left / Right
  • Maximum Sample Peak (SPPM, per channel and combined)
  • Channel-specific peak and loudness values

File & Metadata Analysis

  • File name and absolute path
  • File format and encoding type
  • Sample rate
  • Word length and bit usage
  • Channel-specific measurement breakdown

What is DR (Dynamic Range)?

  • Measures dynamic density and compression impact
  • Related to PLR (Peak-to-Loudness Ratio) / crest factor
  • Indicates loss of dynamics due to limiting/compression
  • Designed specifically for music production workflows
  • Complements, rather than replaces, R128 loudness metering

Why Use DR?

  • Provides meaningful insight into musical dynamics
  • Helps avoid over-compression (“loudness war” issues)
  • Offers a more relevant metric for music than broadcast standards
  • Developed by Friedemann Tischmeyer (EBU contributor)
  • Encourages balanced, dynamic mixes

Workflow & Integration

  • Works alongside DRMeter MkII (real-time plugin)
  • Drag & drop audio files into DAW for instant measurement
  • Ideal for mastering, delivery validation, and archiving
  • Enables consistent, repeatable measurement results

Technical Highlights

  • Cross-platform (macOS & Windows)
  • Fast local processing (no cloud dependency)
  • Higher accuracy than many competing tools
  • Supports LPCM, FLAC, and ALAC formats
  • Sample rates from 44.1 to 384 kHz
  • Word lengths: 16–24 bit + 32-bit float

Additional Features

  • Official DRi, R128, PSR, and RMS measurements
  • Channel-specific detailed analysis
  • Full file metadata extraction
  • Background batch processing
  • Secure, offline operation

System Requirements

  • macOS 10.9 or newer (64-bit, Universal Binary 2)
  • Windows 7 or newer (32 & 64-bit)
Supported formats:
  • LPCM (WAV, BWF, AIFF)
  • FLAC, ALAC
Audio specs:
  • Sample rates: 44.1 – 384 kHz
  • Word length: 16–24 bit + 32-bit floating point
Note:
  • Available as a standalone application only (no plugin version)

Summary

DROffline MkII is a comprehensive offline analysis tool that bridges the gap between loudness compliance and musical dynamic evaluation. By combining R128 standards with DRi and modern metrics like PSR, it provides a complete picture of audio quality, helping engineers make better-informed decisions in mastering, delivery, and quality control.
