Meinl Medium Octave Steel 10" C Minor 432Hz Navy Blue Tongue Drum

Steel Tongue Drum with Handpan-Like Tone in C Minor

The Meinl Sonic Energy Medium Octave Steel Tongue Drum (MOSTD2NB) is a 10" / 254 mm percussion instrument crafted from stainless steel and tuned to C Minor at the 432 Hz reference pitch. Eight precisely cut tongues deliver their notes across two octaves, producing the layered, meditative sound favored in sound bath and music therapy settings. A bottom sound hole can be sealed with a silicon plug to tighten the resonance, while three silicone feet keep the drum planted on a table or the player's lap. Playable with fingers or mallets, this instrument invites both first-time players and experienced sound healers.

What Sets the Medium Octave Apart

Unlike standard tongue drums that place all notes in a single octave, this Medium Octave version pairs each fundamental with its octave partner, giving every struck note a richer voice. The decorative linen/polyester cord wrapped around the shell serves as both an aesthetic touch and a tactile reference for finger positioning. The included OSTDMC wooden mallet pair carries soft-wrapped rubber heads that protect the tongues and let the player shift between bright attack and softer, sustained tones.

Specifications that Shape the Sound

The combination of stainless steel construction, octavated tuning, and a 10" shell gives this drum its characteristic sustain and projection.

Built for Sound Healing, Meditation, and Creative Play

The Medium Octave Steel Tongue Drum is the right choice for sound healers, music therapists, and meditation practitioners who want a portable, ready-to-play melodic instrument with a calming minor tonality. Its eight-note layout is approachable for beginners with no percussion background, while the octavated voicing and 432 Hz tuning give experienced players the harmonic depth to layer it into ambient recordings or live sound bath performances. The included mallets and carrying bag make it easy to bring to studio sessions, retreats, or outdoor gatherings.
