Stands
A stand holds an instrument or device in a position that is comfortable for playing, storage or work. This category includes stands for guitars, keyboards, drums, percussion, wind instruments, microphones, speaker cabinets, sheet music and other accessories. When choosing, the key factors are which instrument the stand will support, how often you transport it and whether it should be fixed or foldable.
Choose by instrument or device
| Stand type | What it is used for | What to watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Guitar and bass stands | Storing a guitar or bass at home, in the studio and on stage | Stability, protection of the instrument's finish and folding for transport |
| Keyboard stands | Stable support for a keyboard, stage piano or synthesizer | Load capacity, width and height adjustment |
| Drum stands | Cymbals, hi-hat, snare drum and other hardware | Leg construction, adjustability and compatibility with your setup |
| Music stands and accessories | Keeping sheet music or lyrics within reach while playing | Desk dimensions and stability during transport |
| Microphone stands | Stationary recording of vocals or instruments | Height, boom arm and thread for the microphone holder |
| Speaker stands | Positioning speakers at the listeners' ear level | Load capacity, height and structural strength |
What to check before choosing
- The stand's load capacity compared with the weight of the instrument or device.
- Folded dimensions and weight if you transport the stand frequently.
- Height and angle adjustment range.
- Protective features, such as rubber parts that do not scratch the finish.
- Stability on both level and uneven surfaces.
Other types of stands
Besides the main types, you will also find stands for string instruments, smartphone or tablet holders, and stands for computers or studio monitors. For wind instruments, there are stands that hold the instrument when set aside while protecting its keys or valves. Lamps for mixing consoles or pianos can also be useful when working in a studio. When organising your complete setup, remember to check the other accessories you transport with your instrument.
Before choosing, verify whether the stand supports the instrument while you are playing, not only when it is stored. With heavier instruments, a strong construction is more important than a low stand weight.
