Public Image Ltd, also known as PiL, is an influential English post-punk band founded in 1978 by John Lydon after his time with the Sex Pistols. Joined initially by guitarist Keith Levene, bassist Jah Wobble, and drummer Jim Walker, the band quickly became known for its experimental approach, blending elements of dub, noise, and progressive rock. Their early albums, especially First Issue and Metal Box, are considered landmarks of post-punk. Over the years, PiL’s lineup changed frequently, with Lydon remaining the driving force. The band shifted toward a more accessible sound in the mid-1980s and later returned from a long hiatus in 2009, continuing to release new material and influence alternative music.
